Bunny Motif

Designed by © Karen Wiederhold

You will need:
Double Knit yarn in Cream,Camel, Pink and Black
3.5mm hook

Aran or chunky will work just as well for a larger Bunny head, but you will need to increase your hook size accordingly.

Head

Round 1: Ch5 and join into ring with a SS into the first Ch.

Round 2: Ch3 (this acts as first Tr), Tr11, SS into the top of the first Tr to join.

Round 3: Ch3 (this acts as first Tr) Tr 1 into same place, T2 into each of the next 11 stitches (24 Tr).

Round 4: Ch3 (this acts as first Tr) Tr1 into same place *T1 into each of the next 2 stitches, T2 into next stitch*, repeat *to* 6 times,  Tr1 into each of next 2 stitches, SS into top of first Tr to join.  (32Tr). Tie off.

Ear One

Row 1: Join brown yarn into space between first two Trs of Round 5 of the head section, Ch6.
Row 2: Skipping first Chain, Tr1 into next 5 Ch, SS into space where the yarn was joined at the beginning of the row.  Tie off.

Row 3: Join cream yarn into space where the brown section is attached in Round 1. Ch2, Dc1 into next 5 Ch, DC1 Tr1 DC1 into the first space at the tip of the ear, DC1 into next 6 stitches, SS into space where the yarn was joined at the beginning of the row.  Tie off.

Ear Two
Join yarn into second group of Tr2 of Round 5 of the head section.  Repeat as for ear one.

Stitch on facial features using oddments of yarn to complete.

I hope you enjoyed this easy little project for your Spring, Ostara or Easter decorating.

Love,
Karen x

Project ideas:

Brooch: Add a brooch pin to the back  of the head and attach it to your jacket, jumper or bag.

Embellishment: Stitch it to a hat, beanie, scarf, blanket or cushion for a fun embellishment.

Garland: Make a whole family of Bunny heads and thread them through the tops of their ears onto a long ribbon/string for a seasonal garland.

Sweet treat gift idea:  Make two heads, stitch them together from the outer edge of the left ear around to the outer edge of the right ear - this leaves the top ear section open.  Hide a cream egg inside for a sweet gift idea.

Another Alternative use for the Sunny Sunflowers Motif.

Do you love my Sunny Sunflower crochet square pattern that I released two weeks ago but you don't want to make a blanket?

Here's another fun idea!  Make the central part of the motif, fold in half and stitch a portion of the edges together where they meet, forming a wedge shaped napkin and cutlery holder.

A lovely addition to your autumnal table settings for Weddings, Halloween, Autumn or any other celebration.

I love finding the versatility within my projects while designing them.

You'll find the pattern at www.weediflowercreations.com

PS - Take a look in the post below for another alternative idea.

Alternative use for the Sunny Sunflowers Crochet Square

Do you love my Sunny Sunflower crochet square pattern that I released last week, but you don't want to make a blanket?

Why not leave off the final two rounds of the pattern, which turns the centre circular motif into the final square shape, and use it as a heat protector/coaster for your teapot.  I love finding the versatility within my projects while designing them🌻.

You'll find the pattern in my Free Crochet and Charity Patterns section.

Crocheted Granny Stripe Blanket

By Karen Wiederhold
Nothing like a stripey granny crochet blanket to snuggle up with on a chilly evening.

I made this a few years ago to fit our king-size bed so as you can image it's large and heavy. It was especially so while it was piled up on my lap during sessions of hooking.

The yarn used is Stylecraft Special Double Knit yarn, crocheted with a 3.5mm hook.

I didn't write out a pattern as its a simple foundation row, followed by rows of granny stitches.

Butternut Soup - Colourful energy in a bowl.

This weekend I made Butternut Soup; deciding to rely on a bit of kitchen witchery to come up with the recipe as I went along.   Just look at that colour!  A great colour to put into the body when you need an energetic boost.  A great colour to inspire a crafty project maybe?

The finished product, which we ate for lunch, was yummy if I say so myself.  I have written the recipe down now so I can make it again!  I may even share it here.

So if you think I should share it, drop a comment below.

Flashback Thursday - Jubillee Cushion

Flashback photo memory to when my knitted cushion design to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee was on the front cover of Let's Get Crafting Knit and Crochet Issue 40.

I was so excited when the issue dropped through my letterbox as I didn't know it was the cover design until then! Happy memories.

Hello

Thank you so much for popping by.
First post in a while and feeling so happy and inspired.

I've been on a design break for a while but excited to be back in 2020 and have some new ideas up my sleeve.

I'm busy making some adjustments and updates to the blog, so things look a little sparse at the moment but wont be for long.

Two new things i've done already is to set up an Instagram and Facebook page.  Up until now i've only had this blog for my designs.  I'm looking forward to connecting more with you here and also out on social media.

I have archived a large number of posts from the blog because I want to change the type of posts moving forward.  I am leaving a small selection of projects and patterns up for you to enjoy in the meantime.

Easiyo Cosy Pattern

Hi everyone, it's been a while though as you know i'm always busy making something.  Last month I bought the Easiyo Yoghurt Maker which i've been wanting to get for quite a while.  Because the place on the counter where the maker is used is next to the window there was a concern for me about drafts affecting the temperature so decided on crocheting a cosy for it.  Seems sensible since there are cosies for teapots, cafetieres and mugs, why not an Easiyo.

So here it is.....
If you would like the pattern to make your own instead of using a tea towel, contact me using the form in the side column and i'll be happy to email it to you.

Mitred Granny Square Pattern first published here in 2013

This is a pattern that I came up with in around 2013 for a granny square with a difference.  I have gotten a bit bored with the look of the granny but wanted to make a blanket that was easy to make while watching TV or chatting with a modern twist to the traditional design.  With some trial and error the Mitre Granny Square came about.

It has been a firm favourite on this blog since I first published it here February 2013, so if you missed it first time round, here it is again to enjoy.

Have fun.

Spring - Sheep Cross Stitch Chart - NEW!

As it's officially Spring I decided to re-release and update a design of mine that was published in Cross Stitcher magazine 10 years ago.

Enjoy stitching and don't feel bound by my colour selections, you can use whatever floss and aida/evenweave fabric you have available in your stash.

Cross Stitching - Green Goddess

I've been having a little break from crochet and knitting since completing a single bed crochet blanket and a jumper for hubby in November.  I have been enjoying myself working on the Green Goddess designed by Joan Elliott.  I'm almost finished but here is a look back over my progress during the last few months.

Vanessa Cabban

It was with a heavy heart that I learned of the tragic death of Vanessa Cabban, a most talented and creative spirit whose blog I enjoyed reading so very often.  Though I never met her I feel her loss as a treasured kindred spirit in knitting, crochet and other crafty persuits. Rest in Peace Vanessa.
